How to play Lords of the Fallen on Mac

There are several methods to play Lords of the Fallen on Mac, and our team has tested and compared them for you. The most user-friendly one is cloud gaming with Boosteroid or GeForce Now, two popular cloud gaming services. Boot Camp is an entirely different kind of method that offers a native Windows environment for Intel Macs. CrossOver + GPTK is another local method, however, the performance with this method might not be as good as that on cloud services, therefore, our recommendation leans toward cloud gaming.

Boosteroid is our recommended option for playing on a Mac unless you are a competitive gamer. The method is ideal if you simply want to enjoy the game on your Apple machine without jumping through any elaborate hoops, and gives a great combination of visuals and performance.

  1. Use the “Play with Boosteroid” button and go to the Boosteroid website. There, you need to create a new account or log in using your Google Account credentials.
  2. Go at the top-right corner of the screen and click on “My account”. To begin using Boosteroid, you need to activate a plan of your choice under the “My subscription” tab.
  3. Look for the game in the search tab on top to see which vendors Boosteroid supports. You need to own the game before you proceed with this method. Here are links to the game for different vendors: Steam, Epic Games; check for a discount on Cdkeys.com
GeForce Now

  • GeForce Now opens up a whole library of games that Mac gamers might not have been able to play otherwise. The best part? They don’t need a super powerful Mac because all the gaming is done on NVIDIA’s servers. In this way, players can enjoy high-quality graphics and smooth performance, even on older Macs. Plus, they can switch between Mac, PC, or even mobile device seamlessly while keeping their progress in the game.
  • The service is pretty reliant on a stable internet connection, so if your connection is slow, you might run into lag or visual hiccups. Another thing to keep in mind is that while the basic service is free, features like priority access and extended play sessions require a subscription fee.

CrossOver + the Game Porting Toolkit

Pros

  • It’s free
  • Unlimited compatibility
  • Stable and reliable

Cons

  • Takes time to set up
  • Takes tons of storage

Playing Windows games on Mac is possible through Apple’s Game Porting Toolkit (GPTK) which offers powerful capabilities but requires Terminal commands to set up. To simplify this process, it is recommended to integrate GPTK with CrossOver, which is a more user-friendly application that acts as a compatibility layer and makes it easier for users to configure their systems.

1. Note: You need to own the game before you proceed with this method. Here are links to the game for different vendors: Steam, Epic Games; check for a discount on Cdkeys.com

Update your macOS to macOS Sonoma, visit the CrossOver site by clicking the button below, and download and install CrossOver.

2. Search for and download the Game Porting Toolkit from this Apple page and then open the downloaded file to mount it.

3. Download the CXPatcher from this page and install it in your Applications folder. Then run the following Terminal command: “xattr -cr /Applications CXPatcher.app”.

4. Open the CXPatcher, turn on the Enable External Resources and the Allow repatch / upgrade options.

5. Click Locate External Resources and open the Game Porting Toolkit folder. Then drag-and-drop the CrossOver app into the CXPatcher.

6. Create a new CrossOver bottle and install in it Steam (or another game launcher if you own the game elsewhere).

7. Turn off DXVK, launch and log in to Steam, go to your gaming library, install the game, and launch it.

Boot Camp

Features: Provides a native Windows 11 experience. Allows running all Windows-compatible programs and games as long as the Mac’s hardware can support them.

Note: Not available for Apple Silicon models.

Pros

  • It’s free
  • Unlimited compatibility
  • Stable and reliable

Cons

  • Takes time to set up
  • Takes tons of storage
  • Unavailable for M1/M2

Note: You need to own the game before you proceed with this method. Here are links to the game for different vendors: Steam, Epic Games, CD Keys (check for discount);

Boot Camp is a utility that partitions your Mac’s hard drive, allowing you to install and run Windows alongside macOS. This is a seamless way to utilize Windows applications on your Mac without encountering compatibility issues, which is particularly useful for gaming.

  • One of the key advantages of using Boot Camp is it offers a gaming experience on your Mac that’s close to the experience of playing on a Windows PC. Moreover, it’s a cost-effective option, as the primary expense is the game itself, making it an economical choice for gamers on a budget.
  • However, there are certain downsides to keep in mind. Firstly, Boot Camp necessitates a significant amount of hard drive space to accommodate the Windows installation, which may be a concern if your Mac has limited storage capacity. Secondly, this method is exclusively available for Intel-based Macs, so if you own an Apple Silicon Mac, you’ll need to explore alternative solutions. Lastly, the setup process for Boot Camp can be time-consuming, so it’s essential to allocate sufficient time for the installation.

Lords of the Fallen on Mac: our experience and comparison

  • Cloud Gaming  (Boosteroid and GeForce Now)

In our experience with streaming Lords of the Fallen on Mac, both, Boosteroid and GeForce Now were able to offer a 1080p resolution with Medium graphic settings, and the game generally maintained a frame rate of about 55-60 FPS. There were occasional drops in areas teeming with enemies or visual effects with GeForce Now, therefore, Boosteroid’s performance consistency earned it a slight preference.

  • CrossOver + GPT

When we launched Lords of the Fallen on the base Apple Silicon M2 Mac Mini with 16GB of RAM, the frame rate fluctuated between 30 and 60 FPS when traversing areas with special effects and the resolution was 1920×1080 with FSR enabled. We initially encountered difficulties launching the game after the first attempt, and black screens were prevalent, especially during in-game movies. Some workarounds involved attempting to skip these scenes by moving the mouse over the expected skip areas. The performance was satisfactory in the areas that GPTK could translate, but the experience was less favorable in other places. This mixed experience left us a bit disappointed, but it was promising to see the potential for smoother gameplay in areas that Crossover and GPTK can effectively handle.

  • BootCamp

The performance of Lords of the Fallen on Mac with Boot Camp was rewarding on our Intel-based MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM. Playing the game with this method allowed us to enjoy a stable performance with vivid graphics, and we achieved around 25-30 FPS at a resolution of 1920×1080 with graphic set to High. This experience indicated that Boot Camp appears to be the most authentic method to experience Lords of the Fallen on Mac, and a go-to choice for those who prioritize performance.
