Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord on Mac
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is a video game that combines elements of strategy and action role-playing. Bannerlord is the prequel to Mount & Blade: Warband, which came out in 2008 as a standalone expansion to the series. The game is set in an era 210 years before the events in its predecessor and draws inspiration from the Migration Period.
The core gameplay is no different than that of the previous games. Bannerlord is played from an overhead perspective. The player gathers soldiers, completes tasks on a map, and engages in battles. What is new is that the game enhances a wide variety of gameplay features.
The castles and cities are designed to benefit the defenders. They have features like traps, which are strategically placed in chokepoints to kill off huge numbers of attackers before they can get through the gates.
Sieges are meant to be more tactical than they were in Warband. Before the combat starts, the player can build a wide range of siege engines and place them in specific locations to focus on certain weak points in the opponent’s stronghold.
Character interactions have been refined. The player may use a more sophisticated dialogue system to convince NPCs to do what he wants. If he is convincing enough during the conversation (which is tracked by a progress bar), the character will eventually cave in to his demands and agree to his terms.
If persuasion alone fails, the game’s bartering system may be used to bribe NPCs. Bartering is also used for normal transactions between the player and merchants.
Characters may also be courted and married using the dialogue system. Bannerlord expands upon Warband’s marriage mechanic by letting players start a family with their chosen partner. If the player dies, their children can become the new playable characters and inherit the soldiers and fiefs.
Like Warband, Bannerlord has a multiplayer mode that is limited to battles only. There, players can fight with each other in one of several maps and in different game modes.
There are eight factions in the game, each of which is made up of a number of clans and smaller, rival factions with their own agendas. Every faction’s armor, clothing, weaponry, and buildings are based on historical examples from the period between 600 and 1100 A.D.
Players may select the class of soldier they want to play as. There are three classes: infantry, ranged, and cavalry. The good and bad traits of a class are affected by the traits of the faction to which it belongs. In lieu of the currency system in Warband, however, players can now use a point system to choose their class.
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord’s visual design does a lot to immerse you in the setting of the Migration Period. The nature and the characters are created with attention to detail. The soundtrack feels like an adrenaline injection, especially during battle. So, if you’re thinking about investing a few hours in the game, don’t think twice as it has everything to hook you.
