I’ve been itching to try out Cronos: The New Dawn on my Mac, but spoiler alert – it’s not natively supported. That doesn’t mean you’re out of luck though. There are a handful of alternative ways to get it running, and I’ve tested them all to share my findings here.
Can You Play Cronos on Mac?
You can’t just download and run Cronos: The New Dawn on macOS the same way you would on Windows. Native support simply doesn’t exist. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. The reality is there are several workarounds, each with its own quirks, and I’ve gone down the rabbit hole of trying them out.
- Cloud streaming is the easiest way to get going. Boosteroid is, in my experience, the most balanced option. It’s stable, it feels like the service has matured a lot, and the price is surprisingly solid – especially if you’re aiming for 4K. The tradeoff? Fewer servers worldwide, so depending on where you live, latency might be noticeable.
- GeForce Now is the other major cloud player. It’s polished, customizable, and boasts more server coverage. But it comes at a premium, especially if you want high-end perks like 4K at 120 fps. The kicker: plenty of popular titles are missing from its library, which can sting.
- If you’d rather avoid the cloud, CrossOver is hands-down the best local method. Performance is decent across most modern Macs – especially the Apple silicon ones. It’s not perfect, but the hiccups aren’t game-breaking.
- There’s also Kegworks, a free GitHub alternative to CrossOver. It works, but it’s clunky, takes patience, and really demands technical know-how. Think of it as the hobbyist’s route – functional but fiddly.
Lastly, I should also mention two honorary solutions that aren’t good but can still work in some cases. The first one is Whisky, which is basically a the Kegworks’ predecessor, which is no longer supported by its dev and, while it could still work, will likely become obsolete pretty soon.
Speaking of obsolete methods, Bootcamp is another option that is gradually becoming less and less viable. It’s only applicable on Intel Macs, and there are exceedingly few Intel Mac models and configs that can actually run this game. Still, if you’ve got something like a super high-end Mac Pro with a powerful dedicated GPU, you can still give this method a try, since it’s technically free.

Cronos on Mac – Performance
If you’re the type who wants to know exactly how each method actually feels in practice, this is where things get interesting. I didn’t just set these up and call it a day – I spent hours playing Cronos: The New Dawn on my Mac through every option. Some surprised me, some frustrated me, and a couple landed right in the middle. Here’s my breakdown of real-world performance so you can decide what’s worth trying first.
Streaming Cronos on MacBook With Boosteroid
When I tested Cronos: The New Dawn through cloud streaming, I started with Boosteroid. Honestly, it felt like the most straightforward experience. The setup was quick, performance was stable, and the fact that 4K is included across all plans really stood out. With a wired connection, gameplay felt smooth, and even on Wi-Fi, it held up surprisingly well.
GeForce Now was also strong, but it carried a bit more of a premium vibe. The customization options are great, and server coverage felt slightly broader, which helps if you’re sensitive to latency. That said, if you want 4K at 120 fps, you’ll be paying a much higher subscription cost.
Both services delivered on playability. I could jump into the game without wrestling with endless technical issues, and while each had its quirks, I’d easily recommend either to someone who just wants to get exploring without fiddling endlessly.

Running Cronos: The New Dawn on Mac With CrossOver and Whisky
When I tested Cronos: The New Dawn through CrossOver on my Mac, the results were surprisingly solid for such a demanding game. At 1080p, I averaged around 43 FPS, dipping into the high 20s during heavier moments and peaking just above 50. GPU and CPU usage hovered in the 20–40% range, but the real drain was memory – nearly 18 GB used, which is no joke. Still, gameplay felt stable, with only the occasional hiccup reminding me this isn’t native.
Kegworks, being the free GitHub alternative, manages to run the game but doesn’t smooth out the rough edges as well. Expect more jank, random issues, and generally less consistency compared to CrossOver. It works, but it’s not a solution I’d lean on for long sessions.
Whisky sits in a similar camp – less stable, no longer actively supported, and more prone to weird bugs that CrossOver usually avoids.
Based on this data, higher-end Apple Silicon machines like the M3 Max or M4 Max should push closer to a locked 60 FPS at 1080p, maybe even playable at higher resolutions. On the flip side, something like an M1 MacBook Air would probably struggle, dipping well below 30 FPS and eating through RAM like crazy.

Download Cronos on Mac With BootCamp – Is it Even Worth It?
Running Cronos: The New Dawn through Bootcamp on Intel-based Macs is technically possible, but performance expectations should be kept realistic. The game’s minimum Windows requirements call for at least a GTX 1080 or RX 5700 XT, which immediately rules out most Intel MacBook configurations.
Even higher-end Intel iMacs or MacBook Pros with discrete AMD GPUs would likely only scrape by at low-to-medium settings in 1080p, with unstable frame rates and heavy thermal throttling under load. Older Intel laptops with integrated graphics wouldn’t stand a chance.
Bootcamp may provide a more “native” feel than translation layers, but the lack of modern GPU horsepower is the real bottleneck. In most cases, cloud gaming alternatives like Boosteroid or GeForce Now are far more practical options.

Cronos on Mac – Conclusion
So after all this testing, the verdict is clear – Cronos: The New Dawn doesn’t natively support macOS, but that doesn’t mean you’re locked out.
Cloud options like Boosteroid and GeForce Now make it painless to jump in, while CrossOver gives you a surprisingly solid local play option if you’ve got the hardware.
Kegworks and Whisky can work, but they’re clunkier, and Bootcamp on Intel Macs just isn’t a realistic long-term path. The good news? No matter your setup, there’s a way to explore this world – you just have to pick the tradeoffs you’re willing to live with.
