Deltarune’s been one of those games I keep coming back to, and with Chapters 3 and 4 finally dropping, I couldn’t wait to dive in on my Mac. I’ve been following the series since the beginning, so getting to see what’s new – and how smoothly it runs on macOS – was something I jumped on the moment it went live.

Is Deltarune on Mac?

Yes – just like the earlier chapters, Deltarune is fully available on Mac. Getting it up and running is painless, and honestly, I was surprised by how little power it needed to run well in 2025. You don’t need any special tweaks, wrappers, or workarounds.

Chapters 1 and 2 are still free, so if you’re new to the series, there’s no excuse not to try it out. Whether you’re using an older Intel MacBook or a newer Apple Silicon machine, you should have no trouble getting a smooth experience right out of the box.

How to Play Deltarune on Mac

There are a bunch of places where you can grab Deltarune, but for Mac users, I’ve found two options that are easily the smoothest. Whether you want everything managed through a launcher or prefer a direct download, both work without any weird setup.

Download Deltarune From Steam

    Download Deltarune From Steam1
  1. 1
    1.1
Open the Steam app (or download it from steampowered.com if you don’t have it yet).
  2. 2
    1.2
Search for “Deltarune” in the store.
  3. 3
    1.3
Click Install on the chapters you want (Chapters 1 and 2 are free). If you want the next two chapters, you’ll have to purchase them first.
  4. 4
    1.4
Once it’s downloaded, hit Play and you’re in.

Get Deltarune From Its Official Site

Get Deltarune From Its Official Site1

  2. 2
    1.2
Click Download and choose the Mac version.
  3. 3
    1.3
Once the ZIP file finishes downloading, unzip it.
  4. 4
    1.4
Open the folder and run the .app file inside to start playing.

Personally, I lean toward Steam for the updates and controller support, but both routes work great.

How to Enter Fullscreen Deltarune on Mac

Something simple that can be quite frustrating about Deltarune is how th egame runs in windowed mode by default. On PC, there’s a keyboard hotkey that lets you enter into Full Screen, but I haven’t been able to find that for Mac.

Instead, to enter Full Screen in Deltarune on Mac, you just need to click the game window, then go to the View menu in the menu bar and click the Full Screen button.

And if you want to quit the game, you can just hold down ESC for a couple of seconds, and it will close.

How to Set Up Deltarune Saves for Chapters 3 and 4

If you’ve played Deltarune before, you already know it’s not just about finishing each chapter – it’s about what you bring with you into the next one. Choices you made in Chapter 2 are already affecting dialogue, recruits, and even item availability. And now that Chapters 3 and 4 are out, those little decisions? They’re starting to stack up.

I went back and rebuilt my saves to cover every major path: a full pacifist run, a Snowgrave route, and an optimized attack build. These aren’t just for bragging rights – there are story changes, hidden gear, and even entire NPC reactions that only trigger if your save is set up right. Here’s exactly how I did it:

Save Slot 1 – All Recruits (Pacifist Route)

  • Spare or pacify every enemy in Chapter 2 to recruit them.
  • Don’t save in Castle Town until you’ve finished everything in the Cyber World.
  • Make sure Queen and King’s dialogue reflects full recruitment.
  • Defeat both secret bosses: Jevil (Chapter 1) and Spamton NEO (Chapter 2).
  • Collect shadow crystals from both fights – they now show on the chapter select screen.
  • Store eggs in Asgore’s fridge (Chapter 1) or Sans’ shop (Chapter 2).
  • Talk to everyone in Hometown – Sans, Onionsan, Mettaton, etc. Some quests already show continuity.
  • Pick up items like the tension bow, twin ribbon, and other gear that can be combined later.

❄️ Save Slot 2 – Snowgrave Route (Genocide Variant)

  • Start Chapter 2 and trigger the Snowgrave route with Noelle.
  • Use iceshock, get the thorn ring, and follow the dialogue choices that push the route forward.
  • Finish the route to lock in Berdly’s death and Noelle’s fear.
  • Some shops and items will be missed, but that’s part of the route.
  • This save helps track how deep the consequences go as the chapters continue.

💥 Save Slot 3 – Attack Build (Non-Snowgrave Kill Run)

  • Kill all enemies in Chapter 2, but stop before triggering Snowgrave.
  • Start the Snowgrave route just long enough to buy the thorn ring, then back out.
  • Visit both Spamton and Swatch shops for their gear.
  • Prioritize +attack gear, like Jevil’s Tail, spike band, and anything Malius can help craft.
  • Defeat both secret bosses again – their items and shadow crystals are crucial for future fights.

🧩 Bonus Tips (Applies to All Saves)

  • Secret bosses are worth the effort – beat them in every save.
  • Craft unique items with Malius; the menu expands later, and you’ll want the best stuff.
  • Collect eggs – they’re being tracked, and that means they’ll probably pay off later.
  • Save your glowshards and dark dollars – value goes up by chapter.
  • Push all hometown interactions: give Toriel flowers, talk to Sans, visit Onionsan every time, check Mettaton’s request.
  • Try to collect all weapons, armor, and even random consumables – some are craft ingredients now.

That’s how I’ve got my saves set up going into Chapters 3 and 4. It might feel like overkill, but with how much this game remembers, I’d rather be safe than miss out on something that can’t be undone later.

Lastly, if you want to transfer your save files from one device to another (not needed if you installed the game through Steam), or if you want to edit some of your save files, the directory where the Deltarune save files are stored on Mac is: $HOME/Library/Application Support/com.tobyfox.deltarune/.

Deltarune on Mac: Conclusion

So yeah, if you’re jumping into Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 on Mac, the good news is it runs great, it’s easy to get going, and there’s a lot to dig into. But if you’re like me and want to get the most out of the experience, prepping your saves and keeping track of all the little details really pays off.

Whether you’re here for the story, the combat, or just the weird secrets Toby Fox likes to scatter everywhere – there’s a ton to discover, and it’s only getting deeper. I’ll be playing through each route and probably losing sleep over what I missed, but that’s kind of the fun of it.
