Have you tried this after installing?
Click the link to download a disk image (.dmg) file for that macOS.
Double-click the .dmg file to open it and see the .pkg file within.
Double-click the .pkg file, then follow the onscreen instructions. This installs the macOS installer into your Applications folder.
Open your Applications folder and double-click the macOS installer, named Install [Version Name]. Follow the onscreen instructions to install macOS.

Dear Marina,
My computer had Catalina OS and it worked great. It got stuck trying to install something so I gave it to my friend who runs an IT business to fix. He handed it over to his staff who brought back the computer installed with Lion 10.7.5, 11 G 63. I can hardly use my computer now because nothing I use is supported by Lion. I read that to update to Catalina, I first have to update to el Capitan. I followed the directions precisely, because it is not hard.. It said it was installed successfully but it's still on Lion. I went to different sites to fix this but they all have the same advice which got me nowhere. My friend is on vacation now so I am hoping you can help me because your directions are so clear. I can always count on women for clear directions.

My computer is a MAC Pro, 13 inch, mid 2012.

Thank you for your help.
