Destiny 2 on Mac
You can’t natively run Destiny 2 on Mac, but there are alternative ways to play this game, such as streaming it through cloud gaming services like Boosteroid and GeForce Now, or by installing Windows. The method that’s best for you will depend on factors such as the model of your Mac and the strength of your Internet connection.
In this article, we will explore the different ways to start Destiny 2 on your Mac and have some fun with it, and we’ll also say a couple words about the game itself for those of you who have never played it before.
Can you play Destiny 2 on Mac?
Yes, you can play Destiny 2 on Mac by streaming it via Boosteroid or GeForce Now, like we’ve shown in our guides. The other way to play this game is through installing Windows on your Mac, which will also be explained below.
Since this game doesn’t have a macOS version and probably never will, playing it natively on an Apple computer is out of the question. Despite this, there are a number of workaround methods that can allow a Mac user to play unsupported games. Not all of them will work with Destiny 2, but the ones that are available for this game have been included in this post.
Destiny on Mac
The method of playing Destiny on Mac we recommend to most users is cloud gaming, because setting it up is a lot quicker, as you’ll see in our guides. Getting Windows on your Mac takes more time and effort, and won’t work on every type of Mac.
Cloud gaming has come a long way since its inception and right now, it’s a truly viable gaming method, and it’s a great way to play games that aren’t supported for and/or a too demanding for your machine. Obviously, it won’t be the same as playing the game natively, but it can get you pretty close to it. Additionally, it will work on any Mac that can run a browser app and has a stable and fast Internet.
How to play Destiny 2 on Mac
To play Destiny 2 on Mac, first determine which method is the best one for you. Cloud gaming requires a good Internet, but will work on every Mac, while the Windows method is reserved for higher-end Intel Macs. After you’ve made your choice, follow the instructions we’ve provided in our guides for each method.
Destiny 2 on Mac M1
Cloud gaming is the only method to play Destiny 2 on an M1 Mac, since only Intel Macs can use the Boot Camp Assistant app to get Windows installed on them. Windows emulation methods such as Parallels and CrossOver are also not compatible with this game due to the anti-cheat system of Destiny 2.
The reason you can’t use the Windows method to play Destiny 2 on a Mac with M1 (or M2) chip is because the architecture of the Apple Silicon chips is incompatible with the Windows OS, which is also why the Boot Camp Assistant app used in this method isn’t supported for the M1/M2 models. This leaves Apple Silicon users with the cloud gaming method, which is the one we recommend anyway.

About Destiny 2
Destiny 2 is a popular free-to-play multiplayer FPS (First-Person Shooter) game, developed by Bungie. The game is set in a futuristic sci-fi world and integrates role-playing elements into its FPS gameplay. There are two main game mods – PvE (Player vs. Environment), where a team of players needs to work together as a team to complete an objective, and PvP (Player vs Player), where two teams of players fight against one another.
Gameplay
There are three main player classes in the game – Titan, Hunter, and Warlock – which brings the game closer to RPGs compared to other First-Person Shooters. Each of the classes has its unique set of abilities, upgrades, and perks, as well as three subclasses that further diversify the gameplay experience.
The gameplay is mainly focused on the game’s storyline, which is divided into missions, which can be played solo, but are better experienced in the game’s co-op mode, where you and three other players work as a team to beat the mission.
There are also special raid missions which are more challenging and there the number of players in a team is increased to six, as well as PvP modes where teams of players battle against one another.
Due to the well-executed gunplay of Destiny 2, with precise and responsive controls and satisfyingly-punchy weapons, the battles in the game are exciting and gripping. The sound design in the game plays a big role in this, as it offers great audio feedback whenever something important, such as landing a headshot or performing a powerful attack, happens.
A core element of Destiny 2’s gameplay is the loot system, which rewards the player with better gear, weapons, and armor as they make their progress through the game. At first, the loot system can feel satisfying, as you are constantly finding new and exciting items, but once you get to a higher level and start looking for specific weapons or pieces of gear, the system’s overreliance on RNG can lead to frustration, because players can end up grinding for hours in order to get a certain item, only to be rewarded by something they don’t really need or want, or something they already have. Also, many players have complained that certain types of activities are more rewarding, thus discouraging the players from engaging in other activities, which can result in the game becoming monotonous and stale. Needless to say, these are all complaints inherent to the very concept of loot systems, but nonetheless ones that can drive some players away from Destiny 2.
Critics
The game has predominantly favorable reviews from gaming critics, but lukewarm user ratings. The main complaint from gamers regarding Destiny 2 is that it is too similar to its predecessor and doesn’t have much innovation. Another major complaint from users is that the game includes Paywalls and invasive microtransactions that make the free-to-play exterior of the game feel like a cheap marketing trick, used to draw players in and get them to spend money to make the game playable and enjoyable, rather than an actual gaming model.
Conclusion
Destiny 2 suffers from many of the problems that are typical for the majority of free-to-play games. Paywalls, microtransactions, toxic and rude community members, confusing gameplay loop and player progression, etc. However, at its core, the game still has something to offer – its fluid gunplay, engaging story missions, and variety of modes can be a lot of fun, especially if you have a group of friends to play together with.
