Visualization

I'm really interested in 3D visualization tools -- combining the accelerometer and 3D graphics would be really cool -- slide or rotate the iPhone to manipulate your model. Really cool!

(And I wouldn't mind seeing some interesting games either!)

Molecule Viewer

I'd like to have a away of viewing chemical structures

VPN and visualization

Just copying this over from the other post's comments . . .

I would love to see VPN access coupled to a full featured terminal, which would allow me to check up on simulations on a remote cluster, submit jobs, etc when I'm away from my computer.

I'm not sure how practical it would be in use, but it would also be nice to have a full featured version of VMD.

Of course all of this would necessitate being able to use the iPhone as a portable harddrive which I seem to remember not being completely straightforward.

I'll be waiting for the 2nd gen iPhone before I get one though. . .

Games

I voted for "visualization tools". I would love to see some kind of "pymol player" with a minimal interface capable of reading .pse files and playing stored movies or scenes.

But, what I really want is games.

Scientific Databases

What does it mean Scientific Databases?

Scientific Databases

I mean local access to various types of databases. I looked at the demonstration of the Epocrates drug database and thought it would be great for other types of scientific data.

Take a look at comments about the iPhone SDK. One poster mentioned having pictures of plants, insects, flowers, etc. for field work. That sounds great! Similarly, I could imagine geologists might enjoy having similar information for identifying minerals.

In my case, I'm in the lab, but I could imagine chemical databases to give me molecular weights, toxicity / safety information, density... All really helpful to have on hand.

I think these types of applications will be exciting for the iPhone. They're very popular for Palm and other handhelds.
