We are currently searching for a Mac/Linux Systems Administrator to assist in managing the
computer resources of our office environment, as well as our high-performance computing cluster.
The role will require the applicant to build on their fundamental knowledge of the hardware and
software infrastructure and provide unique and leading-edge solutions to complex problems as part
of a world-class team. The successful applicant for this position will report to the Systems Architect,
and will start April 1, 2008.
Education
- Degree or diploma in a related technical discipline from a recognized post-secondary
institution
Required (Applicants will not be considered without the following skills)
- Extensive knowledge of Mac OS X and Linux
- Experience with mail and calendaring servers
- Fluency in bash and perl scripting
- Systematic approach to troubleshooting
- Strong organization and documentation skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English language (spoken and written)
- Ability and desire to work in an exceptionally fast-paced environment on unique solutions to
difficult problems
Further skills (The following skills are an asset to qualified applicants)
- Two or more years designing and supporting solutions for a Linux or Mac environment
- Experience with any of the following technologies:
- IMAP
- LDAP
- Kerberos
- Smartphones
- OS X Server
- Radmind
- Subversion
- Xen
Duties:
- Under the direction of the Systems Architect, design and implement improvements and
additions to our computational infrastructure - Monitor systems and proactively solve problems
- Manage user accounts, permissions, backups, and resource usage
- Support the development, scientific and management teams’ needs
- Maintain and develop vendor relationships, manage purchases, track physical assets and
warranty status
